Mr. Jean de Dieu IYAKARE is currently Lecturer and Head of Department of Civil Engineering at Rwanda Polytechnic/Kigali College. He has 17 years of teaching and conducting research in environmental sciences. He holds a specialized master in Water Chemistry and Master of Science, technology, health, mention chemistry, with specialization in water treatment. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental chemistry from University of Rwanda. His research interest is in environmental sciences. He has been involved in different research projects such as “Assessing the contribution of mining to sediment loads in the upper Nyabarongo catchment’ funded by IUCN-Rwanda as Principal Investigator. His role in the project “Behavior change and capacity development in plastic waste management“ is leading the team through overall coordination of the project activities, coordination of field work, project reporting, organizing and facilitation of the project working group meetings.
Parfait YONGABO is the Division Manager in charge of Institutional Development, Applied Research and Consultancy at Rwanda Polytechnic. Prior to his government cabinet appointment at Rwanda Polytechnic, Parfait was a Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Rwanda-College of Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, Depratment of Forestry and Nature Conservation, and the Program Impact Lead for the Mastercard Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda. He holds a PhD Degree in Research Policy obtained from Lund University, Sweden with a specialization in Research and Innovation Management. He also has a Master of Science in Biodiversity Conservation and Natural Resources Management obtained from the Unuversity of Rwanda. His research interest is in agriculture, biodiversity conservation, innovation studies, policy analysis, knowledge systems analysis and research impact evaluation. He has been involved in different local and international collaborative research projects with several institutions, including FAO, Sida, Belspo, EU-JRC unit, University College London and the University of Johannesburg. He was awarded by the International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR, Canada) as an outstanding young researcher in 2014 and he was awarded by the Rwanda Innovation Endowment Fund in 2015 as a young researcher with an innovative project to address the community problems. The awarded project was on value addition for fisheries products in Rwanda as a means to fight malnutrition. In the same line of research entrepreneurship, he was nominated among the 11 African young entrepreneurs from Rwanda by the RUFORUM. He has published a number of scholarly works in the form of scientific articles, conferences, and scientific and technical reports. His recent research focuses on the development and operationalization of policy instruments for knowledge-based development. Part of his work is on the Rwandan Agriculture Innovation System and policy approaches for innovation development as a means to promote agriculture as an important socio-economic sector in Rwanda. His role in the project “Behavior change and capacity development in plastic waste management“ is co-leading the team through overall coordination of the project activities, coordination of field work, project reporting, organizing and facilitation of the project working group meetings.
Dr. Sylvie Mucyo is currently serving as Vice-Chancellor. Dr. Mucyo has served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor at Rwanda Polytechnic, the Deputy Coordinator and student manager of University of Rwanda and Sweden research bilateral cooperation, as a researcher and a lecturer of Environmental Sciences at the University of Rwanda (UR), College of Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Mucyo is an environmental scientist by training, graduated with a PhD Degree in Applied Environmental Sciences/Solid Waste Management from Abertay University, Dundee, Scotland. Dr. Sylvie Mucyo is an expert in Solid Waste Management/Biowaste management and has contributed in a number of related research works. She will bring her expert for this project and participating in the research tools development, research conduct, training tools development and providing any other advice that might be needed for a smooth project management.
Mr. Daton Eric NGILINSHUTI is currently a Division Manager in charge of Digital Content and Connectivity at Rwanda Polytechnic where he overall coordinate the IT Infrastructure, systems and Edtech/Digital initiatives spread on 9 campuses and 8 colleges across the country. In terms of Education, Mr. Daton holds a Masters in Cryptology and computer security and possesses several IT industry certifications. Before Joining Rwanda Polytechnic back in May 2022, Mr. Daton was the Team leader of ICT Research Infrastructure and Business Solutions in the Sida (Sweden) Supported Research bilateral Cooperation with Rwanda for almost 8 years, where he has led and accomplished so many IT projects to support research development at UR (ranging from network improvement, Data Centres, IEBMIS, Elearning System, Library management system, Digitalization, etc). About his role in the project “Behavior change and capacity development in plastic waste management “, he will mainly act on the component of Knowledge management as a Webmaster.
Chantal MUKARUGIRA is currently serving as a Lecturer and researcher at Rwanda Polytechnic/Kigali College with twelve years of experience in teaching, Curriculum developing and final year project supervision in ICT department. She holds a Master of Science in Information Technology obtained from University of Kigali in the year 2018, and she has published a number of papers in International journals. Lecturer Chantal will participate in this project on the component of Knowledge management as an Information Technician and will serve on other components such as Research on Plastic Waste management and behavior change and in Training delivery as she is an experienced Researcher and Lecturer
Assiel Mugabe is currently a Lecturer at Rwanda Polytechnic-Kigali College, with fourteen years of experience in teaching and conducting different researches in water resources and environmental management. Assiel Mugabe is a soil and water engineer by training. He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Soil and Water Engineering from University of Rwanda, in 2019. His roles in the project “Behavior change and capacity development in plastic waste management “are conducting of research, developing of training materials, as well as delivering training.
Osile NDAHIMANA is currently serving as Assistant Lecturer at Rwanda Polytechnic- Kitabi College with 18 years’ experience in education sector and research especially in conservation and natural resources management. Osile NDAHIMANA is a Conservationist by training. He is a Master’s degree holder in Biodiversity Conservation and Natural Resources Management since 2021. He will serve as a team member in research and development of training materials, as well as a trainer during the development of the project entitled “Plastic waste management and behavioral change”.
Liliane MUTAYOMBA is currently working as Research and Innovation Coordination Specialist. Liliane has an experience of more than seven years for project management and training in Rwandan education Sector with more than four years’ experience in Research administration. In particular, she participated in different published and unpublished research works. She graduated with a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from Beihang University, China. She is contributing to project and bringing her expertise in research tools development, research conduct, training tools development, training facilitation, project reporting and any other tasks as needed.
MAZIMPAKA Louis Herman is an environmentalist, social safeguard and health and safety expert with almost 13 years’ professional experience in the above- mentioned career in some of sub-Saharan countries/East Africa. He worked in various domains including among others: Human settlement and urbanization projects, road projects, Commercial, institutional and residential related projects and Industrial projects with different construction and consultancy companies as a health, environmental social safeguard (HESS) expert. He has been involved in various environmental and social studies and supervision. He is a lead expert in Rwandan Association of Professional Environmental Practitioners (RAPEP). He has a master’s degree in environmental science since 2010 and he has been training and performing research activities at different Higher learning Institutions including Rwanda Polytechnic/ Kigali College. He is a strong asset since he is bringing his expertise as an environmentalist, social safeguard and health and safety in all aspect of this project implementation.
