In the spirit of environmental stewardship and community engagement, Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) joined the local community of Kigali during the October 2023 Umuganda community service exercise took place on 28 October 2026. The initiative demonstrated their shared commitment to environmental sustainability, responsible waste management, and collective action in building cleaner, healthier, and more resilient communities.

The Umuganda activity provided an opportunity for participants to work side by side in maintaining public spaces, promoting proper waste management practices, and raising awareness about the importance of environmental conservation. Through this collective effort, participants reinforced the critical role of community participation and behavior change in addressing environmental challenges, including plastic waste pollution.

The collaboration between Rwanda Polytechnic and UNDP underscores the power of partnerships in advancing sustainable development goals, strengthening environmental awareness, and empowering communities to take an active role in creating a cleaner and greener future for Rwanda.
